Second-grade students in Laura Murphy’s class at Washington Drive Primary School recently took part in a cross-curricular study of the United States of America that culminated in a presentation for their parents. Mrs. Murphy’s annual “State Fair” provides students with an opportunity to enhance their skills in the areas of research, nonfiction paragraph writing and computers.
Donning red, white and blue shirts and headbands displaying the names of the individual states they had studied, the second-graders proudly stood and recited the facts they had learned throughout their weeks of research, having utilized their computer lab time to study the states and create a corresponding PowerPoint display. They also presented posters for each state and sang “This Land Is Your Land.”
