Harborfields High School senior Pam Wax was named a Semifinalist in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program, representing less than one percent of high school seniors throughout the country who achieved this great honor.  Pam was named a National Merit Semifinalist based upon her outstanding academic record, high scores on the Preliminary SAT test, and recommendation from High School Principal Dr. David Bennardo.

Of her honor, Pam said, “It’s a privilege to be named a Semifinalist and I’m very excited to be part of such a prestigious competition and program.” Pam is not only a dedicated student, but devotes much of her time to extracurricular activities at Harborfields High School. She is the Class of 2011 president and is involved in numerous clubs including the Science Research Club, Tri-Fit Club, Students for Global Justice, Theater Company, and National Honor Society. Pam also runs on the Cross-Country team and conducts science research throughout the year at Stony Brook University. Pam hopes to enter the medical and science research fields in the future, although she is unsure of her exact career path at the moment.

As a Semifinalist, Pam will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for one of approximately 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, worth a combined total of $36 million.
