Harborfields Staff Kicks off 2013-14 School Year With Enthusiasm

As students enjoyed their final days of summer, administrators, teachers and staff of the Harborfields Central School District gathered to participate in the district’s annual Superintendent’s Conference Days from Sept. 3-4.
The conference began as all staff gathered at Oldfield Middle School, where Superintendent of Schools Diana Todaro extended her greetings and well wishes for a successful school year. Board of Education President Dr. Thomas McDonagh then addressed staff. “Your presence can change the life of a child,” he said. Dr. McDonagh also touched upon the issues of the Common Core, APPR and working within the restraints of the tax levy cap.
Principals from each school introduced the new staff members for the school year and wished them much success in the years ahead. Newly appointed Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Human Resources Francesco Ianni and Assistant Superintendent for Business William Nimmo also welcomed faculty and presented special accomplishments from the previous school year, as well as additional security measures in place for the upcoming year.
Ms. Todaro concluded the welcome address by highlighting several new initiatives for the 2013-14 year including an ongoing focus to enhance technology throughout the district, the transition to a “paperless” district, and the ongoing focus of the Common Core Learning Standards.

Teachers and staff concluded their first conference day with meetings at their respective schools and also devoted time to setting up their classrooms for the first day of school.
