Tornadoes Stir Up Spirit

On Saturday, October 23 the Harborfields community gathered at James Brennan Memorial Field to celebrate Homecoming 2010 amongst fellow classmates, alumni, parents, and district staff. To begin the day, the district’s athletic department hosted its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This annual celebration honors the district’s top scholar-athletes who donned the Tornado uniform over the years.  During the ceremony, Jim Abbott (Class of ’77), Mark Millon (Class of ’89) and Victoria Cunningham (Class of ’04) were recognized.

The Homecoming Parade kicked off soon after, during which each graduating class showcased their float, based on the theme of “Civilizations.” In addition, the cheerleaders, marching band, and dance team kept the crowd entertained. Seniors Michael Kelly and Stephanie Henriquez also made a special guest appearance as the Homecoming King and Queen, respectively.

Following the parade, the Harborfields Varsity Football team took on the Deer Park Falcons. The Tornadoes took the lead in the first quarter and managed to hold on for a win with a score of 15-14. The victory was only one highlight of a week’s worth of festivities geared at stirring up Tornado spirit, from high school spirit days to the traditional homecoming dance.

In a letter to students, Principal Dr. David Bennardo said, “This year’s celebration established yet another chapter in the rich book of traditions that characterize our special Harborfields spirit.  We look forward to riding the wave of Homecoming enthusiasm well into winter season.”
