Students from Noreen Paccione’s third-grade class at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School celebrated Black History Month by creating a friendship quilt. The students first learned how African-Americans used quilts as maps to show routes to escaping slaves. According to Ms. Paccione, “The students also learned that African-Americans took pride in making quilts as a shared community experience.” The third-graders took great pride in making their own quilt, which will be donated to a deserving student at the end of the school year.
