Students at Washington Drive Primary School launched their annual Walk for a Wish campaign in early March in an effort to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Volunteer John DeTurris from Make-A-Wish visited students to introduce them to the organization’s mission and the types of wishes it grants to children who are facing life-threatening illnesses. In the past year alone, the Suffolk County chapter of the foundation has granted more than 150 wishes.

Washington Drive students listed intently as they learned how they could help raise money for this valuable cause in preparation for the district’s annual Walk for a Wish. The walk is planned for Saturday, April 5 and will be held at Harborfields High School. All money raised will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and will be used to help grant the wish of a child within Suffolk County.

Students shared ideas of how to raise money, including earning money for chores done at home, selling old toys or seeking donations from family members. “Every little cent helps,” said Mr. DeTurris.
