Students from Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School were full of smiles on March 14 when Principal Florence Tuzzi rode into the cafeteria on a Zamboni dressed as Taylor Swift during lunch. Tuzzi’s appearance was the students’ prize for winning the principal’s challenge as part of the PTA-sponsored Parents as Reading Partners program.

Students cheered and clapped as their beloved principal appeared as the pop star, and sang along as Swift tunes played over the cafeteria sound system.

Tuzzi was more than happy to put on a performance for the students, giving them high-fives as she drove past them on the Zamboni. Students erupted in louder cheers when Tuzzi jumped off the Zamboni and did a little dance for them.

In order to meet the principal’s challenge, students were tasked to read a combined 10,000 minutes during one week in January. During that week, the students not only read with their parents at home and in school, but also participated in Guest Reader Day, Crazy Beach Hat Day, Red Day and trivia challenges.

After meeting their reading challenge, students had the opportunity to vote on whom their principal should dress up as; overwhelmingly, they selected Taylor Swift.
