In early April, students from Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School had the opportunity to participate in an after-hours enrichment program to reinforce math skills learned in class. During “Math 24 Night,” more than 100 students played Math 24, an arithmetic game where students use addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division skills to find a math solution of 24.

Sponsored by SEPTA and beta and coordinated by Christine Mayr, students played tournament style until the evening’s winners were named. Congratulations to the first place Math 24 champions: Matthew Lusby (third grade), Ashley Xie (fourth grade) and Jacky Xie (fifth grade). Students Dylan Toplovec, Quin Gegwich and Caleb Kapen all took second place, while Connor Tom, Jack Steel and Elizabeth Kelly secured the third place ranking. Fourth place was awarded to Noam Horev, Alex Zhang and Marcus Wynter.
