TJL Students Grant Birthday Wishes

Andrea Horowitz, a fifth-grade teacher at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School, has been actively involved in Birthday Wishes, a community service organization that brings birthday parties to homeless children. The organization believes that all children, regardless of their living situation, deserve to have their birthday celebrated joyfully. According to Ms. Horowitz, “This is a simple concept, but one that makes a huge difference.”
Ms. Horowitz has been helping to provide items that are needed for the birthday celebrations at a local homeless shelter by involving staff members and students of Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School. Her class recently collected and made homemade items to put together birthday boxes for Birthday Wishes.
The students really enjoyed giving their time and creativity to this project. “I feel good about doing this because we are helping people who don’t have as much,” said student Gianna Masi. Zachary Yorio summed it up best by saying, “It was good to do and it was fun to do!”
