Taking part in the Project Linus non-profit organization, first-grade students at Washington Drive Primary School worked together on Nov. 24 to make handmade blankets that would benefit seriously ill and traumatized children.

Assisted by parent volunteers, first-graders took on the role of “blanketeers” and worked in groups of four to knot the cut ends of a fleece blanket. After each blanket was complete, students signed their name to a “made with love” tag that will be given to the recipient along with their new fleece blanket. The class contributed a total of six fleece tie blankets to the organization.

Through the gifts of handmade blankets and afghans, Project Linus strives to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise might be in need of a big hug.
