Celebrating the power of reading, fourth-grade students at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School joined Scholastic’s “Open a World of Possible” initiative, designed to elevate the importance and joy of reading for all children.

Inspired by the initiative, fourth-graders ran a grade-wide book drive, collecting books for children who do not have access to a variety of different reading materials. As a result of their efforts, students collected and donated over a 100 books to Reading Reflections, a local Long Island charity who puts books in the hands of children who want and need them.

"When children choose the books they want to read, they read more and they develop fluency, confidence and a curiosity about their world that ultimately opens a world of possibilities,” Dick Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic.
