For the fourth consecutive year, Oldfield Middle School held a school-wide “Read-a-Thon” on December 12, raising money for reading materials and fostering students’ love for reading.

Upon entering the school, students made their way to the auditorium where they spent the entire day reading. Along with their reading materials, students were welcome to wear comfortable clothes or pajamas and bring in snacks, pillows and blankets. To usher in the holiday spirit, some students, staff and faculty wore “ugly sweaters,” a spirited tradition for the district.

The proceeds from this year’s Read-a-Thon went to the purchase of Scholastic’s “Scope Magazine,” the primary reading material used for sixth-grade literature classes. With the school-wide collaborative effort, students raised enough money to defray the $8 cost of the magazine for all sixth-grade students.
