Dressing the Part

As a culmination to the class read-aloud of “Pippi Longstocking” by Astrid Lindgren, students in Denise Sullivan’s second-grade class at Washington Drive Primary School dressed as book characters and enjoyed special activities that corresponded to the story.

Inspired by the novel, girls came to class dressed as Pippi Longstocking, while boys wore pirate attire with eye patches and traditional pirate hats. Students had the opportunity to watch the original 1969 “Pippi Longstocking” film and experience some of Pippi’s favorite Swedish cookies and caramel candy. After the movie, Sullivan led a class discussion comparing and contrasting the movie with the book.

“This is something I started a few years ago with my students, and it has become one of the highlights of the school year,” said Sullivan.
