As the culmination to a curriculum-based activity, students in Susan Turrini’s and Augustino Rettino’s fifth-grade classes at Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School presented United Nations projects for parents and peers.

The fifth-graders worked in groups and posed as “ambassadors” to one of the 193 U.N. countries. Each group created a booth to highlight some unique features of their country. Booths included travel brochures, political maps, flags, banners, traditional foods and artifacts. In addition, the students performed different choral readings about the U.N.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the students to learn about different cultures, countries and the United States,” said Turrini.
