Fighting Hunger

In conjunction with Stop & Shop’s Fighting Hunger Challenge, students in Harborfields High School’s Global Justice Club, under the advisement of Michelle DaSilva, collected more than 800 pounds of food for the Harborfields Association for Community Outreach.

Entrance into the contest required students to build a structure with the food they collected and display it in a prominent location in their school. Built with about half the canned food items the students collected, the Global Justice Club chose to create a city donned with superhero figures that represent the fight against hunger. To accompany the structure, students designated the city’s slogan: “Not every hero wears a cape. Everyone can fight hunger.”

In mid-March, the Global Justice Club were named the winner of the contest and received $1,000 for their school.
