Every Penny Plays a Part

In early April, Harborfields High School’s Global Justice Club, under the advisement of Michelle Da Silva-Burke, hosted their fifth annual concert fundraising event with proceeds benefiting the Magic Penny, a non-profit organization providing financial support for educational, economic and agricultural programs in the Bompehtoke area of Sierra Leone, West Africa.

The two-part concert featured 22 student and faculty solo and group musical acts. Students sold tickets to the performance for $10 pre-sale and $12 at the door. In addition, T-shirts, tote bags and bumper stickers were sold at the concert to collect money for the organization. The club collectively raised and donated more than $6,000 to the Magic Penny.

“The support of our community was overwhelming and helped to create a memorable night,” said Da Silva-Burke.
