A Message from John Valente, Director of Heath, PE and Athletics

Regrettably, due to the very low number of registrations to date for the Community 5K- Fun Run on Friday, May 29th, we will be forced to postpone the event until September. We have decided to select the morning of September 19th (this is Homecoming weekend) as the new date for the event. We are hoping that students and residents in the community will be less scheduled at that time of the year and more focused to come out to support this community fun event. The naming of the event will be changed to “3rd annual HF Homecoming Community 5K-Fun Run to Support the Special Olympics”. This new date will be placed on the new school calendar and promotion of the event with revised registration brochures will begin in earnest once school begins (at Back to School nights, Athletic –Parent Meetings, etc…). Sponsors of the event will be notified of the change to September and those families who have already registered will have the option of having their money returned or allow us to hold onto it if they choose to participate on September 19th.

I wish to extend my thanks to everyone on the Health and Welfare Committee and the Physical Education/Health Department who have worked diligently over the past several months to organize the event. Again, we will try again to get folks energized in the schools and the community once we return in September. Perhaps the exciting of Homecoming will provide the spark we are looking for. I am open to any and all suggestions that you may have in order to promote the event better for September. Perhaps by adding a few twists may encourage more people to come out.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly. Have a pleasant Memorial Day weekend.
