Owl_Encounter.jpg
Students in Barbara Craft’s and Eileen Semo’s first-grade classes at Washington Drive Primary School had an up-close encounter with one of nature’s birds of prey, the owl.

During the presentation from Volunteers for Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Center supervisor Lauren Schulz, students observed two Eastern screech owls, a barred owl and a great horned owl. First-graders learned about the unique features and habits of each owl and heard an owl make the “hoo” noise. While answering students’ questions, Schultz distributed feathers from different owls and parts of an owl’s skeleton for the students to touch.
