Students in Melissa Owen’s first-grade class at Washington Drive Primary School took a “Trip Around the World” during a performance for family and friends. To begin the show, the students led the audience to China through a song entitled “Fong Swei.” They then traveled to Italy by singing “That’s Amore” and “On Top of Spaghetti” and concluded their trip in Africa with a variety of songs including “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”
Flanked by scenery depicting the above countries, the students were dressed in traditional outfits worn in China, Italy, and Africa. In addition to singing beautiful songs for their family and friends, the children also shared important facts about the countries. In preparation for their “trip around the world,” the students spent time in class researching their countries and learning about the various customs and cultures of each.
