Harborfields High School senior Alisa Chang was one of 15 students to be honored as an Outstanding Senior of Science Student at the Suffolk Section Science Teachers Association of New York State 40th annual Awards Dinner.

During the evening, high school seniors were presented with an award as their teacher spoke about their academic achievements throughout their high school career. Speaking on Chang’s behalf was Harborfields High School science teacher Mike Pinto. Pinto also served as Chang’s mentor for her research on computer programming and cryptography that she presented at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair in February.

“It was a great night of awards where truly outstanding students and teachers were recognized for four years of hard work,” said Brian Vorwald, co-chairperson of the event. “Suffolk County and all of Long Island has made tremendous strides in science with an unprecedented number of Siemens and Intel finalists. It was a difficult task for school districts to choose just one recipient.”
