In an effort to promote and reinforce positive character, Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School kicked off a new character education program with a special schoolwide assembly.

Coordinated by building committee members, including Principal Marguerite Greene and Assistant Principal Mary Williams, the assembly taught students about the importance of PRIDE, an acronym for patience, respect, integrity, dependability and empathy. Students watched a video and a slideshow that discussed ways to show TJL PRIDE as well as how to earn rewards for demonstrating positive character behavior.

Students caught performing a good character action have the opportunity to receive a ticket from a faculty or staff member as well as have their name read on the morning announcements. Through a lottery system, students are selected to take part in a VIP luncheon, accompanied by a mystery guest.
