Big Shoes to Fill

For the fifth consecutive year, students at Oldfield Middle School participated in the Teacher for a Day program, through which students assumed the role and responsibilities of a middle school teacher.

Coordinated by student government advisors Christopher Havranek and Kristin Presti, the Teacher for a Day program allows students the chance to experience learning from the other side of the classroom by educating their classmates. To participate, students put their names and the names of three teachers they wanted to work with in a raffle. Selected at random, 46 students were assigned to teachers who volunteered to participate in the program.

A week prior, students met with the teacher they would be shadowing to organize and plan a lesson. Many students arrived to school dressed the part as a teacher, with some students and teachers coordinating their outfits to match. During their lunch periods, student and teacher pairs enjoyed a pizza party.
