Earlier this year, students in the Harborfields instrumental program participated in two unique music programs that gave them the opportunity to learn from professional musicians as they played alongside peers.

Thirteen students, along with Thomas J. Lahey music teacher Cathy Ferraro, attended the 11th Annual Suffolk County Music Educators Association’s Day of Horn. The SCMEA Day of Horn festivities included a mass of 200 horn ensembles and an All-Star High School horn ensemble in which horn professionals coached students. The Day of Horn culminated with an evening performance for family and friends. Participating in the event were Harborfields High School students Peter LaRocca and Audrey Lenahan, Oldfield Middle School students Danielle Barber and Joseph Interrante, and Thomas J. Lahey students Billy Alexander, Elias Antonison, Nathan Aronowsky, Steven Badolato, Daniel Dicesare, Jared Kay, Lucy MacInnes, Emily Maldonado and Genie Ramautar.

Additionally, double bassists in the TJL fourth- and fifth-grade orchestra enjoyed a presentation led by bass expert and TJL parent Glen Saunders. Mr. Saunders performed for the students with and without accompaniment, coached them on their skills and talked about the role of the double bass in the orchestra. The instrumentalists involved were fifth-graders Orla Cummaford-Roberts, William de Groot, Nabeeha Ilyas, Ivie Mergille and Gavin Sanders and fourth-graders Gregory Bohk, Chase Brandt, Morgan Vallen and Aidan Saunders.

Congratulations to all students involved in these musical experiences!
