High School Theatre Company Presents ‘Anything Goes’

Each year, the Harborfields High School’s Theatre Company puts on a special performance of their spring musical for local senior citizens prior to the show’s opening night. This year, the talented cast and crew brought to the stage their production of “Anything Goes.”

Prior to the performance on April 13, the Harborfields PTA and central administration jointly sponsored a dessert reception for the senior citizens. Dressed in sailor hats and handkerchiefs, the jazz band performed and members of the National Honor Society helped the seniors enter raffles to win gift cards to local businesses and restaurants.

“Anything Goes” is set aboard the S. S. American, where nightclub singer Reno Sweeney is in route to England. Her love struck friend Billy Crocker sneaks onto the ship to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining the triangle loveboat are Public Enemy 13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy win Hope’s heart.

During the evenings of April 14-16, the company performed public viewings of their show. Under the direction of Kristen Gavin, the cast and crew received a standing ovation from the audience as they sailed away with their hearts.
