Sixth-grade students of Oldfield Middle School participated in the first annual Literacy Committee Read-a-Thon.  The fundraiser took place on Friday, March 2, a date celebrating both the birth of author Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and the nationally recognized “Read Across America Day.”

Over 100 students pledged to read a certain amount of time or number of pages between the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 2:50 p.m., and gathered monetary donations based on their anticipated amount of reading. They spent the day in the school auditorium donning pajamas and their independent novel, Nook or Kindle.

The $2,000 raised from the read-a-thon will be used to supplement classroom libraries, as well as additional reading material for the school’s library.
