A Growing Lesson

Family and Consumer Science teacher Christy Roxo has been working with sixth-grade students on a very special project that allows them to get their hands dirty while they learn. Students used money from a grant provided by Harborfields Alumni and Community Educational Foundation (HACEF) to build a vegetable garden in which they planted lettuce seeds and herbs donated by Decker’s Nursery in Greenlawn.
“The goal is to add new boxes and vegetables every year,” explained Ms. Roxo. “We then hope to use the vegetables and herbs from our gardens throughout the year in class.” The students enjoyed the project very much and learned a great deal from the experience.
