Hydrofluoric Robotics Heads to LI Championship

The Harborfields Robotics Program recently entered three teams into the FIRST Tech Challenge and placed impressively. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization whose mission is to inspire students’ interest and participation in science and technology by holding regional, state, and nationwide robotics competitions.

Hydrofluoric Robotics, one of the club’s three teams comprised of upperclassman, won the third qualifier Jan. 13 advancing them to the Long Island championship in March. The upperclassmen team also won the “Control Award”, which recognizes a team that successfully uses software and sensors to enhance robot performance.

The program’s “rookie” team, Technetium made it to the playoffs, winning a second-place medal and trophy.

At the fourth qualifier on Feb. 9, the sophomore team, At Least it Didn’t Explode, won the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award which celebrates a team that thinks outside the box and succeeds in making their designs come to life.

The upperclassman team, Hydrofluoric Robotics, will be competing at the LI Championship in Syosset on March 9th. Congrats, students!
