Dear Harborfields Community,

I would like to thank you for your support during these past two weeks. I have appreciated your e-mails and input throughout this period. As our community begins to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and the Nor’easter, it is reassuring to observe our families coming together to offer assistance to so many in need.

Since we lost days of instructional time, this matter will need to be addressed in the upcoming weeks. Currently, the New York State legislature is working on a plan to make up the loss of instructional days. In the interim, we will continue to review the approved calendar and identify options to make up these days.

At this time, all schools are functioning and ready to reopen on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Please note the following important messages regarding programs and events:

·      The morning music programs at TJL and OMS will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

·      The morning Lahey Literacy program at TJL will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

·      WDPS parent-teacher conferences scheduled for next week are cancelled. WDPS students in grades one and two will be expected to attend a full day of school, whereas classes for kindergarten students will continue to remain as half-day sessions. WDPS report cards will be disseminated on Friday, Nov. 16.

·      The first quarter for students has been extended to Wednesday, Nov. 21. As a result, additional time will be provided for students to complete projects.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period and look forward to welcoming back our students on Nov. 13.

Thank you,

Diana Todaro

Superintendent of Schools
