Twenty-three fifth-grade students from Thomas J. Lahey (TJL) Elementary School’s Spotlighting Abilities of Inquisitive Learners (SAIL) program in the Harborfields Central School District recently volunteered to participate in a trivia challenge. Sponsored by United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Suffolk County, students had friends and family members sponsor them for each correct response to a 100-question trivia challenge. All together, the students raised more than $1,700 for UCP, which will be used to support important programs for children and adults with the disease.

In addition to raising funds, the top two scoring teams from TJL represented their school at the countywide challenge that was held on March 2 in Commack. Team TJL tied for the 1st Place trophy in Suffolk County. That team consisted of the following fifth graders: Greta Browne, Falyn Dwyer, Matthew Katz, Alyssa Mastrantonio, Camille Powers, Jack Stanisci, Connor Stewart, and Matthew Vahling.

The remaining students who participated in the fundraiser were: Ishaan Lohia, Donovan Snyder, Brendan Quinn, Elizabeth Larkin, Brooke Drexler, Caroline Sheehan, Daniel Garvey, Cole Wadler, Will Seligmann, Daniel Ash, Mackenzie Dash, Levi Tuck, Eamon O’Hare, Hope Greco, and Casandra Moisanu.
