Second Annual Read-a-Thon at OMS

Sixth- and seventh-grade students of Oldfield Middle School participated in the second annual Literacy Committee Read-a-Thon. Students pledged to read a certain number of pages or for a certain amount of time between 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and gathered monetary donations based on their anticipated amount of reading.

Students spent the day in the school auditorium donning pajamas and equipped with their independent novel, Nook or Kindle. Lounging with pillows and blankets, in sleeping bags and on couches brought into the auditorium from the school library, students silently attempted to meet their reading goals.

During breaks, participants enjoyed book talks with committee members and library personnel, as well as entertaining activities such as “Literacy Jeopardy.” The money raised from the read-a-thon will be used to supplement classroom libraries.
