Harborfields Board of Education members honored several students for their outstanding achievements before being recognized themselves at their meeting on Oct. 23.

To kick the evening off, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Administration Dr. Rory Manning presented a certificate to Greyson Mignone, a Washington Drive Primary School kindergarten student who raised more than $11,000 to support Maggie’s Mission.

Maggie Schmidt, a former Harborfields student, lost her courageous battle with pediatric cancer at the age of 17. The money raised will help fund research efforts for pediatric cancers and help affected families.

“Greyson displays all of the positive character traits that we try to foster in our school community and has certainly accomplished the mission of spreading awareness,” Dr. Manning said.

He also commended Harborfields High School student Dylan Topolovec for being the top badge earner among 75,000 Long Island students on the KidOYO coding platform.

The board also recognized National Merit Semifinalists Aidan Cordero and Simon Kapen, as well as Commended Scholars Evangelea Andreadis, Christopher Benincase, Alexander, Bram, Annika Browne, Gabriella Gagliano, Hope Lusby, Daniel Shenkelman and Skya Theobald.

Additionally, students Victoria Bell, Jared Buchholtz, Olivia Freiberger, Julia Perz, Ty Ellenbogen, Ms. Andreadis, Everett Borman, Ms. Lusby, Angeline Miraglia and Jennifer Mittelman were honored for being selected to perform at either the NYSCAME All-County or NYSMMA All-State festivals. Music teachers, Gregory Antonelli, Allison Scilla and Clare Jackson were also recognized.

To close out the recognition program, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Francesco Ianni and Dr. Manning presented each of the board members with certificates, thanking them for their devotion to the district.
