At this time Harborfields PTAs Executive Boards are in the process of electing a Nominating Committee for their units.  Nominating Committees are in charge of recommending officers for next year's PTA Executive Boards.  The Committees will consist of existing Executive Board members and members of the units' general membership.  The nominating committee's major responsibility is to nominate the best qualified available person for each office. Only individuals who have given their consent to serve if elected should be nominated for office. If a Nominating Committee member is being considered for an elected position, that member will be asked to leave the meeting during their qualification discussion.

If you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee for your PTA unit, please contact your unit president. Information is located on the school calendar.

If you are interested in serving on the Council PTA Nominating Committee contact Colleen Rappa, Council PTA President, by February 3, 2012 at ptacouncil@harborfieldscsd.org or 631-547-1394. You will be invited to the Executive Board Meeting on February 6th, when the committee members are elected.  Click here to see our bylaws for nominating committee and important dates.

If you or someone you know is interested in serving on one of the 2012-2103 Harborfields PTA Executive Boards, please download and complete the nominee application and return it to the appropriate PTA mailbox by March 1, 2012.  All Board positions are available for nomination.

What purpose does the Council of PTAs play in the Harborfields School District?

A council of parent-teacher associations is a group of local PTA units organized under the auspices of New York State PTA. The purpose of Council is to bring together all the partners in education in the school district. In Harborfields, these partners consist of all the PTA units (WD PTA, TJL PTA,OMS PTA, HHS PTSA and SEPTA), the Booster Club, the School Board of Education, school district superintendent, administration, parents, teacher representative, and of course, the children. Through Council programs, events and meetings, its primary objective is to promote the welfare of children and youth. While a council of PTAs has great latitude in responding to the needs of children, Harborfields’ Council traditionally provides a number of programs and activities on a consistent and yearly basis. They are as follows:

·       Annual Scholarship Show [since 1975]

·       Scholarships for graduating seniors [that has provided over $217,000.00 worth of scholarships since 1975]

·       Parenting workshops on timely and apropos topics. Visit the new Parents as Partners web page to learn more and sign up online.

·       Informs residents of school board candidates; philosophies and qualifications (Meet the Candidates Night)

·       Health & Welfare programs and events

·       Arts in Education programs and events, grades K - 12

·       Pertinent legislative updates

·       School budget hearings, in coordination with the school district, that enable the community to be informed about the contents of proposed school budgets

·       An informative PTA website that brings timely Harborfields PTA information to the community
