A whopping 65 Harborfields students, spanning grades 6-11, were selected for 2021 Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association (SCMEA) All-County honor ensembles. In addition, a dozen Harborfields High School upperclassmen were selected for New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME) All-County honor ensembles.
“Such large numbers are indicative of the high achieving students in our music program and the exacting standards held and promoted by our teachers,” District K-12 Music Department Coordinator Daniel Bilawsky said.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, both SCMEA and NYSCAME were forced to cancel their performances and events, however, Mr. Bilawsky stressed that those unfortunate circumstances do nothing to diminish the achievements of those selected students.
"It's unfortunate that we won't be able to celebrate the work of these musicians at a culminating event like a concert," he said. "But, we're truly beaming with pride for what these students have accomplished. This is a testament to the hard work of these students, their support network(s) outside of school and the dedicated music staff at Harborfields.”
