Every Wednesday in December, Harborfields High School students in dance club participated in live stream dance clinics with the Radio City Rockettes, learning routines traditionally performed during the annual Christmas Spectacular.

In lieu of not being able to raise the curtain at Radio City Music Hall this year due to COVID-19, the Rockettes brought the magic of the holidays to homes by offering the online clinics, as well as a library of free dance and fitness classes on Instagram.

Dance club adviser Jaclyn Best said that with the show’s cancellation, she jumped on the opportunity to have the students learn from the professionals virtually since they would not be able to see them live on stage, as in previous years.

Briana Mercuri, a sophomore at Harborfields High School, noted that the club gives her something to look forward to after a long day of online learning.

Additionally, dance club president, Hannah Price, commended her teammates and peers on their ability to persevere through challenging times.

“The passion and outlet that dance provides has not only helped me, but so many others find a place to express themselves and release the emotions that are continually pent up,” she wrote. “I am so grateful to be able to lead part of the HF dance community through such a trying time and to continue working together to put a smile on as many faces as possible.”
