In celebration of the Italian holiday Carnevale, students in Dr. Craig Butler’s and Rosalina Sinatra’s seventh- and eighth-grade Italian classes at Oldfield Middle School created masks to mark the occasion.
Carnevale, also known as Carnival or Mardi Gras, is an annual winter festival celebrated 40 days prior to Easter and at the beginning of Lent. The Carnevale celebration in Italy includes parades, masquerade balls, entertainment, music and parties.
To create their masks, a traditional accessory worn for Carnevale, students used various decorative materials including rhinestones and colored markers.
