About Us

Washington Drive Primary School, located in the Harborfields Central School District, serves pupils in kindergarten through second grade. Our Early Childhood Program is designed to help children positively transition from home to our school environment as this first school experience is an important introduction to the sequential program of elementary education. Our curriculum is uniquely designed to enhance each child's academic skills, language, and social competency.

The K-2 experience provides a wide variety of developmentally appropriate opportunities in which children can create, explore, and discover while learning. The staff uses a variety of materials and equipment to support instruction. Among the important aspects of the program are learning activities, which foster self-reliance and a positive attitude toward school and learning. Throughout the school experience, children acquire thinking and problem-solving skills. Most importantly, we nurture the individual personalities and specific learning styles of each child.

Our Programs
Our English Language Arts curriculum provides a balanced literacy approach to reading and writing allowing for instruction to be differentiated in order to meet each child’s individual needs.

Literacy development is strengthened as skills and strategies are taught through meaningful reading and writing experiences. Our curriculum addresses the development of all children’s listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Additionally, the "Go Math" program provides students with the necessary skills to master math concepts in the NYS Standards.  The program fosters a "hands on" approach to learning. The "Go Math" Program provides students and parents with access to an online program that provides additional resources and activities.

Science 21, an integrated K-6 science curriculum is experienced by all students at Washington Drive. The program’s focus is on investigations that are student directed and relevant to students’ everyday lives. Science 21 is enhanced by our building Makerspace. Makerspace is a unique room in our school that allows for creativity and innovation to occur. Students have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build and collaborate.

Music, Art and Physical Education are part of our students' weekly schedule. The objective of physical education is to create physically fit individuals with a desire to lead physically active lifestyles.

Throughout the school year, children participate in many school-wide activities such as the 100th day celebration, PARP (Parents As Reading Partners), Earth Day as well as classroom celebrations. Washington Drive is a great place for students to learn and grow.
