Students in Kelly Harley’s second grade class at Washington Drive Primary School participated in a STEAM project in honor of Earth Day on April 21. Students were instructed to collect used wrappers at home and save them in a Ziplock bag, which they then used to create a “garbage monster.” The lesson taught them to reuse what would normally be put in the trash and the importance of disposing trash and recycled goods in the proper receptacles. Additionally, students named their monsters and wrote acrostic poems to tie in a celebration of Poetry Month.
