Students at Oldfield Middle School in the Harborfields School District celebrated Military Appreciation Month by drawing words and pictures of gratitude with chalk on the school’s sidewalks on May 19. The Military Chalk-Talk was organized by sixth grade co-advisors Taylor Soete and Jennifer Klein and involved all of the school’s sixth grade classes.

“We figured this would be a great opportunity for the students to get together outside and show their appreciation for the members of the military during Military Appreciation Month,” Ms. Soete said.

From American flags to peace symbols, the students took to the sidewalks to express why they were thankful for the military.

“I appreciate the military because they protect us and they risk their lives to do so,” sixth grader Aya Deckman said.

The entire Harborfields School District appreciates members of the military this month and always, and thanks those in the community who have dedicated their lives to protecting others.
