With the long-awaited return of the Newsday Marching Band Festival came a wonderful performance from the Harborfields High School Marching Band and kickline. While this exhibition event is typically one of the highlights on the music department calendar, the fact that this edition of the festival was the first since 2019 brought a heightened level of anticipation and excitement.
Harborfields’ band, one of more than a dozen performing on the first of three nights in late October, received a wonderful send-off and show of encouragement from the school’s football team. Then, once the students arrived at Mitchel Field, they wowed the crowd with their 2022 field show “The Music of Paul Simon,” featuring “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “You Can Call Me Al,” “Still Crazy After All These Years” and “Late in the Evening.”
Superintendent Dr. Rory Manning, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Danielle DeLorenzo, Harborfields High School Principal Dr. Marie Netto and Board of Education President Chris Kelly, along with band members’ family and friends, were all there to offer their support.
“We were so happy to see the return of the Newsday Marching Band Festival,” Harborfields High School Marching Band Director Allison Scilla said. “It was a thrill to participate, and I’m so proud of how our students performed.”
