The Harborfields High School Jazz Band recently traveled to Smithtown for the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association’s annual Day of Jazz. Once there, the band had the opportunity to work with three-time Grammy-nominated trombonist/composer Alan Ferber, performing one of his pieces – among other compositions – during an adjudication and workshop. The Harborfields musicians also took part in a side-by-side, play-a-long session with the One More Once Big Band, on jazz classic “Night Train.” It was an incredibly positive and motivating educational experience.
“There’s really no substitute for these events where students interact with and learn from seasoned professionals,” Jazz Band Director Dan Bilawsky said. “We took so much away from SCMEA’s Day of Jazz.”
