Secondary Students Write Their Way to Winning

The Town of Huntington’s Project Excel recently held its 26th annual Huntington Youth Writes contest, celebrating young voices through poetry, short fiction, and essay writing. The competition was open to students in grades 4-12 throughout the Town of Huntington and encourages creativity and expression among local youth.
We are proud to share that three talented Harborfields students were among this years winners! Congratulations to Maeve Nordmann (OMS), Lillian Fleischer (HHS), and Angeline Gutierrez Diaz (HHS) on their outstanding achievements!
Lillian Fleischer (12) earned first place in the Grades 9-12 short fiction category for her story “The Big Bang.” Angeline Gutierrez Diaz received third place in the Grades 9-12 essay category for her piece “My Summers.” Maeve Nordmann won third place in the Grades 6-8 short fiction category for her entry “The God War.”
The winners will be celebrated at an upcoming award ceremony, and their work will be published in the Town of Huntington’s annual journal!
