HF Shines at BASH Awards!

Harborfields High School made waves at the 8th Annual Broadcast Alliance for Senior High (BASH) Awards, held at Hofstra University’s Lawrence Herbert School of Journalism on Thursday, May 22.
No strangers to the camera, Tornado News Team on-air hosts, Aaron Alonso-Tittmann and Ben Oren, served as the events hosts and represented Harborfields with confidence and charisma. Behind the scenes, Harborfields’ own Luke Ricci kept the show running as Technical Director, managing the event's livestream.
Aside from their important role hosting and streaming the event, the Tornado News Team also took home two of their own BASH awards. They won second place in the Long Broadcast category for their Daily Morning Show, and third place in the School News Package category for their compilation video showcasing Winter Media Day. It was a wonderful experience for all Harborfields students who were involved in the filming, editing, and production of these videos! In addition to the awards, students attended breakout sessions in the field of broadcast journalism and film led by industry professionals and Hofstra faculty.
In a follow-up message about the event, BASH Executive Producer David Gamberg said, “I would be remiss if I did not commend the outsized role that Mr. Ambrosio played in helping to organize the BASH Awards and Learning Conference for over 45 schools. He is part of a volunteer Steering Committee, and he took on the added responsibility of having his students produce the event. This involved regular communication, coordination and follow through with all facets of the event. We could not have made the event happen without the efforts and energy of Mr. Ambrosio.”
This inspiring event was a truly incredible celebration of student media, bringing together more than 50 schools and over 1,000 student broadcasters. Harborfields cannot wait to participate again next year!
