Natural Helpers Learn and Lead at Youth Mental Health Conference

On Friday, October 10, Dr. Koenig, Social Worker, accompanied a group of Harborfields High School students from the Natural Helpers program to Northwell Health's Youth Conference in recognition of World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day, which began in 1992, shines a spotlight on the importance of mental wellbeing. It’s a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and advocate for stronger services to support mental health for all.
Northwell Health’s Youth Conference was held at Suffolk Community College and invited students from all over Long Island to attend. Highlights from the day included attending interactive workshops on various mental health topics such as, the the cycle of violence and trauma, inequality, balancing school and life, a yoga and meditation session, and even a session with a therapy dog.
“It was inspiring to see other Natural Helpers participate with topics surrounding mental health and wellness for the youth,” said one of the high school Natural Helpers. “The World Mental Health Day Youth Conference reminded our helpers about how important it is to be there for one another and reinforced the principles of the club. These students came back to school excited to bring those lessons back to their peers.”
The students returned inspired to continue fostering kindness, empathy, and support within the Harborfields community.
