Students Explore the Future of Work at Harborfields High School Career Expo

New York State may have adopted the Portrait of a Graduate a few months ago, but Harborfields High School has been preparing students for college and careers long before the state’s official announcement. Harborfields is committed to career exploration, work-based learning, and providing opportunities for students to complete four state-approved Career and Technical Education pathways that provide real-world skills and authentic work experience.
On Tuesday, November 18, Harborfields High School students connected with more than 80 local employers at the third annual Career, Connect, Talent, & Trade Expo. They explored career opportunities, gained insights into highly desirable workforce skills, and demonstrated their readiness for the jobs of tomorrow. Students also had the chance to network with employers for possible internships, career advice, and future employment opportunities.
The world of work is changing and it is more important than ever to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce of tomorrow. The employers who work in fields ranging from Arts & Entertainment, Digital Technology, Education, Financial Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Sales gave students a first-hand look at what skills are needed in their fields in order to thrive. A spokesperson from the New York State Department of Labor was also on hand to discuss shifting job markets with students.
“The Career, Connect, Talent, & Trade Expo embodies our commitment to preparing every Harborfields student for success beyond graduation,” said Dr. Danielle DeLorenzo, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “By connecting learning to real-world experiences, we empower students to discover their passions, build essential skills, and envision their future pathways.”
