Superintendent's Message

This week, I was invited to read Lift, the winning March Madness book selected by students in Ms. Armstrong & Ms. Roche's 3rd-grade class. Loved every minute of it!

So Much To Be Proud of at HF!!

It was a pleasure to welcome our students and staff back from spring recess this week.  The week leading up to the break was filled with so many student activities and, as you can see on the school calendar, many end-of-year events fill almost every day going forward.

I hope all of our staff and families had a relaxing spring break.

Project-Based Learning- April Board Spotlight

Each month, I spend a portion of my superintendent’s report spotlighting programs throughout the district.  This month, our spotlight focused on project-based learning at Oldfield Middle School.  This work is an outcome of the incredible work of our staff guided by the goals and action steps within the Harborfields 5-Year Strategic Plan.  Please take a moment to watch the spotlight linked below.

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:

Harborfields High School

Congratulations to all of our incredibly talented students whose artwork is featured in the Harborfields Public Library Annual Young Artists Exhibit! Their creativity and skill are truly inspiring, and the pieces on display are absolutely amazing. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by yet, the exhibit will remain open through the end of this month. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the outstanding work of our student artists!

Oldfield Middle School

Sixth and seventh-grade students had the powerful opportunity to hear a third-generation Holocaust survival story, shared by Mrs. Jane Pashman. Similarly, eighth graders heard a deeply personal account from Dr. Eve Meltzer-Krief, who shared her mother’s Holocaust survival story. Through personal stories and family photographs, both Mrs. Pashman and Dr. Meltzer-Krief recounted their family members’ remarkable journeys of survival. Their visits offered students meaningful lessons on resilience, courage, and the importance of being an upstander.

Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School

Third-grade students were excited to work alongside high school students to create a project that highlighted both Earth Day and social emotional learning. Together, they designed a beautiful mural filled with flowers, each one totally unique. It was wonderful to see high school students inspiring younger students through compassion and creativity.

Washington Drive Primary School

In honor of Earth Day, students at Washington Drive rolled up their sleeves to plant trees, turned the bus loop sidewalk into a colorful chalk walk, and joined together in song during their annual Earth Day sing-along. Special thanks to The Penny Club, the Centerport Garden Club, and the many parent volunteers who helped make the tree planting such a success. We know our students and community will benefit from these trees for years to come!
