Students Leading the Way - HHS Vape Out Program
Each month, I spend a portion of my superintendent’s report spotlighting programs throughout the district. This month, our spotlight focused on the Vape-Out Program led by the Athletes Helping Athletes Club at Harborfields High School. This program is an outcome of the incredible work of our students, guided by their advisor, Mr. Greening, to educate our elementary and middle school students on the dangers of vaping. Please take a moment to watch the spotlight linked below.

Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:
Harborfields High School
The Huntington Drug and Alcohol Council visited Harborfields High School to share with our students the dangers of vaping, marijuana, and drinking. They provided the students with educational materials, and some of our students even walked away with some raffle prizes!

Oldfield Middle School
The OMS Sixth Grade Band, Seventh/Eighth Grade Band, and Jazz Band put on an incredible show at their spring concert. These students and teachers have dedicated many early mornings to practicing and improving their skills, and it showed in their performances!

Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School Students, staff, families, and community members gathered on the front lawn of TJL for a truly out-of-this-world celebration: the ribbon-cutting ceremony for New York State’s first moon tree. The tree represents a nearly two-year-long project-based learning initiative led by Mrs. Kraham and her 2023-2024 fifth-grade class. Thanks to the support of Mrs. Scarth and a grant from HACEF, the moon tree will serve as a symbol of their hard work, wonder, and connection to something bigger than themselves. The tree will be planted in the fall and will serve as a reminder that when we dream big and work together, amazing things can grow
 Washington Drive Primary School
Ms. Craft's class had a hoot last week thanks to some very special visitors from The Wildlife Center of Long Island! After wrapping up their owl science unit, students were treated to an up-close experience with three real, live owls, right in their own classroom.
