Life Lessons from Our Students at Play!
One of the great joys of working in a school district is witnessing the energy, imagination, and pure joy that students bring to play, whether it's a spirited game at recess, an elementary field day event, or a high-stakes athletic competition on the stadium field. Watching students at play reminds us of the value of being present, the importance of teamwork, and the power of joy. They approach each moment with enthusiasm and resilience, often shaking off a missed shot or a lost game with a smile and a renewed sense of purpose. There's a lot we can learn from that kind of mindset.
As adults, we sometimes get caught up in routines, responsibilities, and the pressure to perform. However, our students show us that joy can be found in the moment. While winning is great, it is the joy in the journey that ultimately matters most. So, whether you're watching a kindergartner master playground equipment for the first time or a varsity team giving it their all in the championship, take a moment to appreciate the life lessons unfolding right in front of us. They’re a beautiful reminder to lead with heart, play with passion, and always cheer each other on.
I want to thank our students for the lessons they teach us each and every day!

Rhys Walter Named Spring Sports Hero While Running Toward a Greater Purpose
After attending a life-changing Natural Helpers retreat, HHS junior Rhys Walter set out to run 1,000 miles to raise money so others could attend. The experience had such a profound impact on Rhys that he wanted to ensure no student missed out due to the cost. Unfortunately, an injury paused his journey, but with help from his family, friends, and the Harborfields community (including a $1,000 donation from the Booster Club!), Rhys has continued to raise awareness and funds for mental health. Back on his feet and just a few miles shy of his 1,000 mile goal, he is focused on finishing before the end of the school year!
A nonprofit organization, Team Up 4 Community, was alerted to Rhys’ cause and awarded him first place in their Spring Sports Hero challenge. They presented Rhys with a $3,000 check in recognition of the difference he’s making in the Harborfields community.
Rhys' dedication to mental health awareness has not only impressed the community but caught the eye of CBS reporter, Krystle Rich. She stopped by Harborfields High School to chat with Rhys and some influential people who've been part of his journey. Look out for Rhys’ story on CBS News, which should be airing soon. Way to go, Rhys!

Health & Welfare Committee Survey The Harborfields Council of PTAs Health and Wellness Committee is committed to supporting the well-being of our students and families in the areas of nutrition, mental health, physical activity and fitness, and digital wellness. To help guide future educational programming and resources, the committee is asking families to complete a brief survey focused on various health and wellness topics. Your input is invaluable in helping the committee better understand the needs and interests of our school community. We encourage all families to click here to take the survey, which will only take a few minutes to complete. Your voice will help shape the meaningful initiatives that promote health, safety, and overall wellness for everyone in our district.
Here are some of my favorite moments from this past week:
Harborfields High School:
We celebrated a new tradition this year, the Cum Laude awards breakfast. The Cum Laude designation represents a high level of academic achievement based on your unweighted grade point average. Students were acknowledged with medals for cum laude (93.00 - 94.99), magna cum laude (95.00-96.99), or summa cum laude (97.00-100). This expansion of recognition gives us another reason to celebrate our incredible students!
Oldfield Middle School: Our 8th Grade Awards ceremony was a wonderful evening to celebrate the accomplishments of our eighth-grade students. Congratulations to all of this year's recipients - we are so proud of you!
Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School: This year's back-to-back field days were filled with laughter, memories, and lots of HF spirit! Special thanks to the TJL Physical Education staff for coordinating such fun and memorable field days!

Washington Drive Primary School: The shows at Washington Drive never disappoint. Last week, first-grade students came together to put on a heartwarming show about being the best person you can be. Through songs and thoughtful stories, these students reminded us how someone's character shines through their everyday actions. Thank you to Mr. Acquaviva, Mrs. Owens, and Mrs. Rodgers for reinforcing these important life lessons in such a fun and engaging way!
