John Schu, author of “The Gift of Story” and “This Is a School,” recently paid a visit to Washington Drive Primary School in the Harborfields Central School District to celebrate reading with the students.
The event was arranged for by the school’s PTA, who decorated the front of the school to look like the front of “This Is a School.” Pinwheels are a feature in that story, so the main hallway featured a pinwheel from each class that displayed the names of every student in the school.
“It was an inspiring and joyous event,” Principal Kathryn McNally said. “The whole school felt the magic that day. A second grader said to me on their way out of the assembly, ‘Mrs. McNally, can we just read for the rest of the day?’”
