First graders in the classroom of Marie Fenter and Erin May at Washington Drive Primary School in the Harborfields Central School District recently celebrated the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan with a parade and a special visit from student Haroon Hussain’s mother, who shared her knowledge of Ramadan and the festival of Eid al-Fitr. She read a book with the students, answered questions and made a craft.
“Most importantly, Mrs. Hussain was so thankful that Mrs. May and I welcome all children of different backgrounds and faiths,” Fenter said.
“What a valuable experience for the students this was,” Principal Kathryn McNally said.
