EAT WELL, EXERCISE OFTEN, FEEL FANTASTIC
Breakfast is available to all students in the district. The Lunch Program is available to all students who are in school for the full day. Meals can be paid for daily in the cafeteria or prepaid tickets can be bought in advance throughout the year. A check made out to Harborfields Food and Nutrition or cash in an envelope marked with your child's name, grade and teacher are accepted at the cafeteria any time. We strongly recommend that children use prepaid tickets, especially at the elementary level. Buying tickets assures you that your child receives a complete type "A" meal, which includes an entrée, starch, vegetable, fruit, and milk for lunch and an entrée, milk and fruit or juice for breakfast. We offer a variety of sandwiches daily in addition to the items listed each day on the menu. A menu will be sent home each month with your child or menus can be viewed on this website under the calendar heading. Breakfast is $1.50 throughout the district.
Harborfields High School is in the process of updating its scope of service to accommodate its students. We are moving toward a food court concept, which will provide students with many daily choices rather than following a limited daily menu. Typical selections include bagels, pasta, burgers, a hot entrée, hot and cold sandwiches, and salad platters.
You will find on the web site a sample list of some of the milk, juice, and snack items that are available to all children even if they bring lunch from home. We have joined the campaign with New York State School Food Service Association to make our district aware of the importance of proper nutrition and its impact on health. We have already started to promote the Choose Sensibly plan which encourages snacks that are moderate in fat, sodium and sugar. We hope to provide the education to help students learn to make better choices.
The district participates in the Federal School Meal Program with the intent of feeding all children breakfast and lunch. Based on your monthly income you may be eligible to participate in this program that provides free or reduced breakfast and lunch to children. This form can be completed and sent to our department any time during the year. Forms are available at the main office and cafeteria of each school and on the website.
We offer a Celebration Program to celebrate special days and birthdays throughout the year. If you would like to use this program, you can complete the form found on the web site or by calling the cafeteria at each school. The form can be returned to your child's cafeteria one-week prior to the day you wish to celebrate.
If your child has any dietary concerns, food intolerances, or allergies please inform the school nurse and our department. If you have questions any time during the year, please do not hesitate to contact us at 754-5310, ext. 351. We'd love to hear from you.
